Mumbai under attack!!! AGAIN (how many more to wake us up????)

Yesterday the city of dreams fell prey to yet another terrorist mayhem, which this time appeared to be carried out much more brutally with sheer impunity and daredevilry, unlike anything witnessed before.

The politicians, so called future bearers of our country once again appeals to mumbaiker to stand up and go about their life’s as nothing has happened in name of the spirit of the city. Burdened with history of terrorist attacks and mafia wars Mumbai has always been a soft target, situation has always been like ticking bomb ready to explode, but even after so many attacks nothing seems to have changed.

In the end every time the spirit of city is appreciated, but by doing so we are just insulating and hiding the fact that our impotent government is incapable to protect citizens in their own cites. This is just helpless resignation that pulls out every mumbaiker out into streets in face of imminent terror and anarchy.

If Wednesday night attacks are closely observed than we will find that there is dramatic change in modus operandi in operations of terrorists, this points quite obviously at the glaring loopholes that plague our intelligence system. No one in their worst nightmares would have imagined terrorist in hotels, streets, stations with hand grenades and AK 47. Just stop and think how grave is the situation and where this all can lead to.

Who is to blame for this? that terrorist today have gone so far, and we as a country, as a citizen, as a government rely on the SPIRIT of the city, instead of uniting and doing something against it.

One would expect the system to be on additional guard as far as Mumbai is concerned, given the city's volatile history. But then, maybe, the agencies too depended on the 'spirit of Mumbai' to bail them through

We are all guilty. When 24 hour television news shows a dead body 60 times in the space of an hour, one death begins to look like a hundred. When the National Security Advisor says in an interview that there will be more bomb blasts, he helps heighten a siege mentality and a culture of fear. When the police fixes a target first ("This is HUJI" or "This is IM") and then proceeds to catch individuals who best fit the profile of their preconceived target, they often lose sight of the real criminal. When politicians convert our society into a lynch mob against Muslims, they forget Tony Blair's wise words, which it is the communities that catch the "terrorists" and the police will never get the "terrorist" if it alienates the community.

Be it a media, police, politician our we citizens, we just run around to cure the symptoms and playing blame games on each other, forgetting to address the real cause of the epidemic of terrorism and in the end for every person here “SAAB CHALTA HAI”.

I know by sitting and writing here I cant make much difference to situation, but this has really disturbed my mind as to until when this ‘saab chalta hai” attitude will live in most of our minds. Some day we need to get up from this sleep and face it, I hope that day comes soon.

    Dude...i totally agree with u... this SAB CHALTA HAI atitude in the country is not tolerable...atleast NOW the people of INDIA should know what they have to do to fight this unruly behavior from what can be rather described as the TRESSPASSERS of our culture...our lives...our very own motherland .... their are certain questions which has to be raised infront of our LEADER(S) and we the next generation are the one who should actually be questioning their abilities of Leadership which can prove very toxic for our future...

    @happy
    the soul problem in our country is of leadership today, our leaders are soft and so we are so vulnerable, you are right the next generation holds the key, but that saab chalta hai attitude is so imbibed in us also that its really difficult for the youth even to break the shackles,
  3. J. Says:
    i agree with both of you,untill when we would wait for something to happen we will have to rise from with as pointed out by you chintu to wake up, look what they have done to my beautiful city, but its time we do less of talking and more of action, but how ??? i dont know

    This Sab Chalta hai attitude is what exactly called the ILLITRACY of the country,..their are lot of market research agenies which defines the Literacy Level of the country....the leaders project the country's growth by GDP..Poverty Level..literacy rate...etc... but the actual growth comes from WITHIN... all the VERY KNOWN wel educated people doesnt even care what our COUNTRY is going through... we have seen last 6 months were the most terrible for a peaceful country like INDIA... after such incidents INDIANS doesnt even care and think that this would become normal within a fortnight or so.... today in the morning i have seen some of our National News Channels saying..""" Its a point of NATIONAL SECURITY and it is more important because thier are 4-6 FOREIGNERS who have been made as HOSTAGES in the HOTEL SIEGED"""... i ask each and evryone of u.... what kind of NATIONAL SECURITY is this ...i m not saying we should not look at the foreigners been made as Hostages but how does it relates to NATIONAL ISSUES????? i think This nation belongs to INDIANS first....!!!!!!!!!!!!

    A person or two wont make much impact, people have to rise as a mass and unitedly things can improve gradually, theres no immediate solution but the problem here is we just want to blame people instead of going towards solution, if that intent to do and bring change comes that also can make lot of difference

    @happy
    i agree with you happy, it belongs to indian first, thing concerns me is that if terrorist can openly attack us with granades and AK 47 what future are we going in, alright there has to be a change from within but people still dont realise that there is a need to change and that realisation can only come from able leadership
  7. Neha Says:
    @happy and chintu
    i will say both the things are necessary internal realisation and also able leaderhip, tell me chintu if such horrifying act doesnt wake your soul up than what more do we need, that realisation has to come from within and than a leader can guide us all to common goal of india being peaceful and prosperuos country
  8. Arjun Says:
    I too feel bad, sad and guilty....

    The city getting back to normal doesn't show the 'spirit of the city' , it only reflects that how soon people can forget such a tragedy. We all are guilty in that regard. We feel the pain only when it happens our dear ones....

    But one thing has to be said about our people and society. See, when a Narendra Modi takes action against terrorists, people make such a big fuss about it. Terrorists should be treated beyond our judicial system and crap which takes a lifetime to decide on his guilt. We arent talking about roadside thieves, we r talking abt bloody damn Terrorists who will kill u gorily for no fucking fault of urs. U know, it feels very restless... it's not something one person can change, and when a person stands up we better support him and not keep finding loopholes in him.

    And about our News Channels. I'll ask u one thing- During the World Trade Center attacks, did u see one dead body? All we saw was how the plane crashed the towers but not one scene where it showed blood shed bodies of people. That's ethics and that makes a difference and not how fast a city comes back to normalcy if that ever matters. It's TRP ratings all the way.

    A change in all of us, i mean literally all of us, we may see a better future ahead of us.

    Cheers..!!

    @Arjun
    very well said buddy, society resists change because any change will force them to come out of their comfortable shell and attitude of saab chalta hai, well narender modis point is well taken, when a man whos trying to change things and working for the betterment of society at large you will apply all possible means to stop him.
    about news channel well in india a terrorist attack is just another masala news to attract TRP
    what we need is a radical change in leadership
  10. Navchawla Says:
    i agree with all of you..

    we have to change this sab chalta hai attitude from the mindset of our citizens..over the 10000 years of history known to man, India is the only country in the world that has never attacked any other country..this chalta hai attitude is so old and pervasive into us!

    But, again the unanswered questions is how? We cannot do wht the heroes in Rang De Basanti did..nor can we practically do what was done in A Wednesday..wht to do is the question which even the governments are not able to answer!
